About the Player:
"It all began on the back of the tour bus. It was the kickoff of the
'74 European tour, and the Heads were everywhere. Hell, everyone was a
head in
those days, even mom. Yeah, you know the deal, same as ol' Jim sang,
"illegitemate son of a rock and roll star.
Growing up on the tour circuit was quite an experience; I quickly learned
which drugs to avoid, and which to hoard in mass quantities, to save up for
those long cross-country tour bus rides. Hanging out in the Phil Zone since
long before I could walk, I can remember the big guns
on the tour circuit: RamRod, Mama Cass, Uncle Bill. Hell, I'll never forget
the time Bobby spit on me. Cornell '77. Why, I was just a
wee tyke of no more than three.
Little did I know that the underground shuffleboard circuit had so
infiltrated
and interpenetrated what
seemed like no more than a harmless tour circuit. Life on the road with a
touring band can be trying, though, and when drugs weren't enough, some
turned,
against their doctors' advice,
to dangerously addictive and all-consuming shuffleboard habits.
Yeah, I played; hell, we all played back in those days. I'll never
forget the
time I bagged my first hippie. That guy didn't know what hit him (he was
probably
too busy grooving on Jerry to notice the trouncing I gave him). Soon, I
became
the undisputed King of the Zone.
But with great power comes great responsibility. Young bucks would line up,
all wnating a piece of the master. By the ripe age of 20, I had to
branch out.
My training
(under guru Rajnish, the fastest stick on the circuit) came to a close,
and I
hit the pro circuit. After a poor showing at Altamont this past summer,
I plan
to overwinter in San Fransisco,
and perfect my technique in anticipation of the Spring season. By then, I
should be a contender."
